For decades, Ray-Bans have been recognized for their timeless style, unique designs and superior quality.
The History Of Ray-Ban Sunglasses
Ray-Ban, which was founded by Bausch & Lomb in 1937, originally manufactured its sunwear for the U.S. Army Air Corp. The Army wanted sunglasses that protected aviators from the sun’s harsh rays, but at the same time, looked sophisticated and attractive. Appropriately branded the Aviators, these were the first sunglasses with an anti-glare lens. They consisted of a lightweight metal frame made with gold metal and two green lenses.
Although the Aviator was originally intended for utilitarian purposes, it quickly gained popularity among trendsetters and the masses. When Ray-Ban introduced the Wayfarer in 1952, it became the go-to choice for celebrities like Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe, but also everyday people.
While fashion trends come and go, the Aviator and Wayfarer have withstood the test of time and are still some of the most coveted eyewear styles today.
