logo-alt.pngLook outside your window. It is windy? Do you see dust flying around? Walk outside. Do you feel any moisture in the air? Is it hot and dry? If you answer yes to all of these questions, you probably live in the Texas Panhandle!

Amarillo and the surrounding area is not only home to friendly people, beautiful sunsets and great steaks, but it’s also home to many people who suffer from dry eyes. If your eyes are itchy, dry, red and irritated, or you frequently experience blurred vision, you have probably tried everything; from eye drops and not wearing contacts to allergy medication and more.

Here at Broome Optical, our Amarillo eye care center is now offering a new type of dry eye treatment: LipiFlow. If you were unable to attend our first seminar last month about this breakthrough dry eye disease treatment, no worries! We are holding a second LipiFlow Seminar on June 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public.

What Is LipiFlow?

LipiFlow is used to treat meibomian gland dysfunction, which is one cause of dry eye syndrome. It works by helping to open up your eyelid’s congested glands and break up any blockages. By using heat and pressure, this FDA-approved treatment allows lipids to flow normally again so your eye will remain lubricated and moist.

In a clinical study conducted in 2012, 79% of participants claimed they saw improvements after four weeks of treatment.

Will LipiFlow Work For Me?

That is something we want to find out! By attending the LipiFlow Seminar on June 10, the Amarillo eye doctors and eye care specialists at Broome Optical can help determine if this treatment path is right for you. They will be on-site to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.

Why Do I Have Dry Eyes?

In addition to the environmental factors listed above, there are many other factors that contribute to chronic dry eye, including:

  • Age
  • Gender (women are more likely to have dry eye than men)
  • Contact lenses
  • Certain medications (for example, people treated for arthritis)
