“You want something? Go to college. Get a job,” Dr. O’Brien remembers hearing from her father, who worked in trucking. “You are in control of your life.” The family moved often and he was determined to raise a daughter who wasn’t dependent on anyone but herself. So at the age of 16, Lisa got a job at Waxahatchie Vision Center in the Metroplex area. She loved it. After enrolling at West Texas A&M University as a pre- optometry major, she never looked back. Three decades later, Dr. O’Brien continues to work hard, and was the first optometrist in the Texas Panhandle to become board certified. She’s married to Scott Nelson and loves to ski, hike and camp.
